Sparks is the first level of the competitive program at Spotlight Dance Works. Our Sparks program requires a class commitment level of TWO NIGHTS PER WEEK. The Sparks dancers will represent Spotlight Dance Works at local dance competitions, conventions, community events and SDW performances.

 

The Sparks Competitive Company is a group of dancers ages 6-9 who are selected from our recreational program by our teaching staff because they have demonstrated great focus, enthusiasm, and potential for growth and a love for dance.

 

Dancers in the Sparks Competitive Company at Spotlight Dance Works will participate in a curriculum that upholds the SDW pillars of community, positivity, artistry and dedication in order to foster long standing relationships with peers, faculty, and dance as an artform.​

SPARKS INFO:

​

• Dancers are selected on an INVITE only basis.

• Commitment to 2 nights of dance per week during the school year

  • Last year: Tuesday 5:30-8:15, Friday 5:30-8:30

• Enrollment and participation in our designated 2023 Sparks program includes the following weekly training commitment during the fall season which is spread out over two evenings:

  • Two Sparks Ballet technique classes

  • One Sparks Jazz technique class

  • One Sparks Tap technique class

  • One Sparks Acro technique class

  • One Sparks Contemporary technique class

• Participation in 3 Competitive Routines (some dancers may be offered additional opportunities) 

  • Each Sparks routine requires a 30 minute rehearsal class per week, which are spread out over two evenings.

  • Styles of these competitive routines will be jazz, contemporary and tap.

• Requirement to attend 2 mandatory Sunday afternoon rehearsals in the weeks leading up to their debut performance. These weekend dates will be announced in September. 

• Participation in Sparks Summer Intensive August 2023, 3-4 Regional Competitions Spring 2024, 1 Regional Convention Spring 2024, Company Showcase Spring 2024 and 2-3 days of Recital June 2024.

• Optional participation in: 

  • SDW Company Holiday/Year End Party 

  • SDW Company Big/Little Mentor Program 

  • Special optional SPARKS Local Company Events and Performances
